name: Trafalgar D. Water Law
canon: One Piece
age: 26
canon point: Post Winner Island
history: history
abilities:
personality: As a young boy, before the tragedy of Flevance, Law was a very kind and devoted child. When the Amber Lead Syndrome began, Law refused to leave his family behind, even with supposed evacuations happening. Unfortunately, this meant he witnessed the massacre of his family, and his classmates, and was only able to escape town by hiding among corpses — and that does something to a child. When he finds himself among the Donquixote Pirates, Doflamingo makes note of his cruel and nihilistic attitude.
During his time under Doflamingo's command, he meets his brother: Donquixote Rosinante, aka Corazon. While Corazon claimed to hate kids, he really was trying to push them out of Doflamingo's sphere of influence. Upon hearing that Law had the infamous Will of D in his name, and what he was dying from, Corazon took a special interest in Law. This included taking Law to multiple hospitals in an attempt to get him cured of Amber Lead Syndrome, and ultimately had him risk crossing both the Marines and Doflamingo to obtain the Ope Ope no Mi to ensure Law could live-- calculated risk that saved Laws life but saw his own end at Doflamingo's hands. It is Corazon’s efforts to save his life at the risk of his own, and the kindness he showed Law that helps him regain some of that kindness he once had- though it is not a side of him he shows others often.
Since he is a doctor, and thus in the business of saving lives, Law typically avoids lethal force himself, and hates the idea of senseless murder (Doflamingo being the exception due to his murder of Corazon). He also extends that sense of honor to other aspects of his life, refusing to take credit for other people’s deeds — though that might also be due to his contempt for the idea of fame.
Like several other of Oda’s male characters, Law seems amused by “cool” things like robots and ninjas — which gives the rare opportunity to see him take life a little less seriously. This is revealed most vividly when meeting the ninja Raizo in Zou--he makes a request to see a specific technique, ganging up with Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, Franky and Zoro in harassing the man. While he is the more stoic among the group in his request, he still makes one and is still very impressed when Raizo finally caves in to show off some skills.
Among his peers in the Worst Generation, Law can be perceived as calm and calculating. He often prefers to avoid unnecessary conflict and waits to act until he finds the time is right. He avoids situations that may attract unwanted attention— but does revel in chaos initiated by others. This pragmatism often causes others to perceive him as callous, even though it is mostly due to not wanting to keep from complicating his plans and goals. This callous reputation aids him in becoming a Warlord on the Sea--it is rumored among G5 members of the Marines that he sent the World Government 100 pirate hearts to earn the title. Whether he did just that or used another means of leverage is unknown, but the fact that the rumor is able to spread so widely and be believed speaks to the lasting image of said reputation.
The one significant flaw Law has shown is that he will throw away his carefully laid plans when it comes to his emotional investment— particularly regarding Doflamingo. He could have easily orchestrated a war between the Donquixote Pirates and the Beast Pirates but chose to set it up to confront Doflamingo personally for his crimes and the direct hand he had in Corazon's death. He even declared that dying would be fine if it meant Doflamingo’s downfall.

⏵ character information
name: Trafalgar D. Water Law
canon: One Piece
age: 26
canon point: Post Winner Island
history: history
abilities:
Physical Abilities: Due to rigorous training under the Donquixote Pirates since childhood, Law has developed not only in skill, but strength as a fighter. At the age of 12 he was able to throw a full grown man (a trained Marine at that). Additionally he shown as being able hold his own in a fist fight with Monkey D. Luffy when they are forced into a fight against one another.
Law also has an impressively strong constitution and high endurance. During the confrontation with Doflamingo, he is not only able to remain conscious after having his own arm severed, but can think clearly enough to use his abilities to take his own death. He also survived a deadly disease known as Amber Lead syndrome, known to cause debilitating pain before and eventual death. He is the only known survivor of the disease which he suffered for years before eating the devil fruit Ope-Ope no mi and curing himself.
Swordsmanship: Law is a master swordsman, once again a skill owed to his training with the Donquixote Pirates. He has an almost effortless control over of his nodachi, a sword almost as long as he is tall. When he combines this skill with his Devil Fruit abilities, he is able to use that range to cut and manipulate multiple targets at once. The best example of his power as a swordsman is on Punk Hazard during a fight with Vergo where the wake of his final slash was enough to completely cut through Caesar’s laboratory, the surrounding mountains, and a nearby incoming meteor.
Medical Expertise: Law’s parents were considered the best doctors in the whole of the country of Flevance, and would instruct Law in the more intricate procedures he wasn’t learning in his schooling. Due to his medical knowledge, Law was able to make almost immediate use of his Ope-Ope no Mi abilities to isolate and eradicate the Amber Lead syndrome from his body.
He was able to simultaneously operate on Luffy and Jimbe following Marineford, ultimately saving their lives. Given the extent of their injuries, this would have required significant surgical knowledge. In addition his ability to identify and neutralize high levels of the toxic chemical NHC10 from the children at Punk Hazard suggests he had a vast range of pharmacology knowledge as well.
Tactician: Law is crafty, opportunistic, and a strategist. He is one of the only members of the Worst Generation of Pirates to choose to have his crew rest in Paradise before entering into the New World, suggesting a level of calculation, caution, and planning. He also concocted a detailed, multilevel plan to take down Doflamingo and his criminal enterprise— even if those plans did not ultimately factor in or account for the chaos that is Monkey D. Luffy.
Devil Fruit Abilities: Law possesses the Ope-Ope no Mi, a paramrcia fruit that cannot be utilized without advanced medical knowledge. It allows the user to create a spherical pocket of space known as a Room. While in the Room, Law can manipulate the fabric of space. Once a Room has been created it cannot be moved except by dismissing one Room and creating another. Law does need full concentration to maintain a Room and it it’s a significant draw on his stamina.
Within these spaces, he is able to “Operate” — he can move things telekinetically, switch people with objects using teleportation, and even switch incorporeal things like souls (body swap). He can cut people from a distance without really damaging them, and rearrange their parts as he likes, including putting limbs on inanimate objects. He can even remove body parts and keep them isolated and functioning without any real harm to the owner. He can disassemble bodies, leaving them living but good luck getting put back together without him.
Of course these abilities are able to be applied medically, as well as combatively. He can remove damage, poisons, and disease from organic matter, attach new limbs to replaced damaged ones, and scan anyone within a Room like a human X-Ray machine. Any physical changes that take place within a Room are permanent, last long after a Room dissipates, unless Law makes further changes.
With his fruit’s awakening, Law has developed two new abilities: K-Room and R-Room. K-Room is reliant on Law having a weapon in hand; he places his Room on said weapon and uses that as a fixed point that he can then extend at will. This K-Room can be utilized to phase through objects and “operate” on anything pierced within its path. Three particular applications of K-Room are seen with Anesthesia, Shock Wille and Puncture Wille. Anesthesia is the act of coating Law’s weapon of choice with K-Room, allowing him to extend the weapon to any preferred range. Shock Wille sends an electric shock through the K-Room coated weapon, while Puncture Wille sends a physical shockwave through solid objects and has been shown to be able to create large craters from the imposing force.
K-Room focuses on applying a room to an object in Law’s possession, while R-Room on the other hand allows him to throw a portable Room onto an intended target. This R-Room remains attached to its target and may expand to allow any effects to remain in place. Like K-Room, R-Room can utilize laws normal “operating” abilities but has its own specific applications, specifically “Silent”. Silent makes the R-Room sound proof—no direct or indirect sound from the target will be able to leave the space of the R-Room while it is in effect.
It is important to note that while these abilities are expansive and can have wide ranging effects and implications, Law has admitted that his has not fully mastered these awakened powers and that they place a significant drain on his stamina. Unless put in a position of desperation (see: Blackbeard), it is unlikely he will make use of them outside of trying to train them to a point of mastery.
Haki: Haki is a user’s spiritual energy manifested in different ways. Law is able to use two more common forms of Haki: armament and observation, though he prefers to rely on his devil fruit abilities more. Armament Haki allows the user to turn this energy into a living shield, which Law has utilized with speed during several conflicts, most notably Doflamingo’s cutting strings throughout the Dressrosa arc. Observation Haki allows users to be more aware of the emotions and presence of living things, the most prominent (and only onscreen example) being in Wano when Law is able to sense Luffy’s defeat and devil fruit awakening from a distance.
